“Volunteers: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Hearts”

DEFINITION OF HEART from the Book “HEART”
HEART: It may be hard to define, but we all know it when we see it. Shakespeare called it the glorious intangible. Heart is the will to do and the soul to dare. It’s two parts caring, and three parts passion. It’s people who give more than they take. Heart has no particular age, gender or color, accepts no boundaries, offers no excuses, overcomes all odds, and comes through smiling.

FUNDRAISING NEWS : JOYFUL GIVING CAMPAIGN

Just in time for the holidays! Our Fundraising Committee had asked our HOV volunteers to help find opportunities to benefit our agency during these economically challenged times. One of our volunteers offered an idea that sounded good to us.

It’s an online auction structured specifically with charities in mind. It’s called, “Bid to Give”.It’s easy to do. HOV supporters can offer an item of interest to be auctioned online with the proceeds going to Heart of the Valley. You can donate by contacting our office to help you work through the details. Our first adventure in this online auction is our"Joyful Giving Campaign."The donated items could be tickets to the theater, concert or sporting event, an autographed piece of memorabilia, free rounds of golf, dinner for two, cases of wine, free stays in resorts or vacation homes, services from local businesses, artwork, antiques, beautiful gift items, holiday items etc. This is also a great site to do your Holiday shopping! You purchase an item and the money goes to help a charity. You can bid on HOV items and visit the other charities online as well, knowing your donation goes toa good cause. The money goes to the agency who submits the item.

You can visit

to investigate further. We thank you in advance for your participation. Let us know what you think.

If you have items, call our office or Email HOV at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Legacy

If you make a donation to Heart of the Valley's endowment fund, you will be giving a gift that will last forever. Here's how it works:

Each year Heart of the Valley would withdraw only the income the investment earns and use the funds to support our programs. The principal is never withdrawn, making this a wonderful way to leave a legacy for future generations of seniors.

If you want more information, please contact us. You can also use our donation form.

GoodSearch.com

GoodSearch.com is a search engine that makes donations to non-profits every time you search the Internet or shop online. It's an easy and free way to support Heart of the Valley. The best way to use GoodSearch.com is to download their toolbar, which works for Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Donate a vehicle or real estate

Have a vehicle, sitting in your garage that never gets used, why not donate it to Heart of the Valley? All proceeds go to help improve the lives of seniors. Remember, we accept anything that rolls, floats, or flies.

To donate a car, you can fill out our vehicle donation form.

Vehicle Donations and Tax Deductions

Donations of “things” to non profits usually count toward the year in which the donation is made---take a box of clothes to the Goodwill and you get to take the deduction in that year. However, the rules for deducting the fair market value of a vehicle are different. The IRS code section changed at the end of 2004, but how often does one donate a car? The qualified charity has to sell the car first, and then you get to deduct the gross proceeds of the sale. Heart of the Valley will report this amount to you and handle the DMV paperwork. This means that in order to take a deduction on your 2011 tax return, the donation of “old betsy” that’s taking up space in your garage or driveway needs to be done soon, to give Heart of the Valley time to secure a buyer before the end of the year. Heart of the Valley has an excellent track record of selling cars fairly quickly and actually has difficulty keeping any inventory of cars in stock at all, which is a good thing, for the donor. So give us a call soon and we will make it very easy for you to donate your car and take a 2011 tax deduction.

Memorial or Tribute Gifts

Make a gift in honor or memory of a good friend or loved one.

Give appreciated stocks

Avoid capital gains tax while receiving a charitable tax deduction.

Planned Giving

Leave a legacy as part of your estate planning. In this way, you position Heart of the Valley to meet the challenges and changing needs of seniors in the future.
