Volunteer Spotlight : Don Eberhard
Don Eberhard as he and his wife, Janet visited a Santa Cruz Health Facility on Christmas Day where Janet's 96 years young, Mom lives.
Harry is a talented former jazz saxophone player and singer who was in a band at the historic Santa Cruz Cooper House downtown outdoor bar and restaurant playing jazz for 25 years. He also wrote television show material for Jonathan Winters and The Smothers Brothers. I gave him a new red saxophone and made him up a wheel chair ID Vinyl Label ["Saxy Harry"] since he's outnumbered by women by a huge margin ! I wheeled him around the place with his glasses and I wore my tie and Santa hat. We had a ball and cheered people up. We told people Harry was on his way for his annual eye exam.
The lady, Della wearing the Tierra I gave her for Christmas is over a hundred years old and a former talented piano player in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. She used to sometimes perform up in the Santa Cruz Mountains at 'colorful' bar frequented by Hells Angels among others. You can only begin to imagine the stories she could tell! The guy with the magic wand is a close pal of hers, Dave who I enjoy chatting with. Dave has a great sense of humor. I told Della to use the Magic Wand to turn Dave into a frog. He and another guy and former neighbor, Monty visit Della to keep her upbeat and look after her well being. I played piano in the afternoon. Nobody hurled any chunks of coal at me for Christmas or bedpans, "Depends" or JELL-O! I was worried since I gave some people new glasses that might be able to line me up with incoming projectiles! I did manage to keep the squirrels away from the building as usual with my music.
Happy NEW YEAR !
Cheers and Pay Goodwill to Others Forward Every Day,
Don Eberhard
