Household Hazardous Waste Pickup

Heart of the Valley, SERVICES FOR SENIORS, Inc. is seeking volunteers to pick up household hazardous waste and take the items to designated recycling and disposal sites.

Volunteers will be trained to educate and help seniors identify expired and hazardous products in their homes. Once items have been gathered, volunteers will pick up and drop off household hazardous waste to approved Santa Clara County waste drop off locations.

Requirements:

• Fill out a volunteer application and attend an interview.
• Attend a training session on proper identification, pickup and delivery of household hazardous waste materials.
• Because pickup of wastes is required, volunteers should be in good physical shape and be able to lift items weighing up to twenty pounds.
• Provide own car or truck and must have the insurance required for CA drivers.
• Have a valid CA Driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Be available for at least one Friday or Saturday per month as that is when the waste drop off locations are open.
• Can choose to go to senior’s homes to educate, identify and gather household hazardous waste. This could be done at the convenience of the volunteer.
